Cancelled In Cleveland

By Administrator | April 9, 2007

This weekend’s entire series between the Indians and Mariners that was scheduled to be played at Jacobs Field in Cleveland has been cancelled due to weather (snow and cold).

The cancellation of Friday’s game — which was one out from being an official game at the time it was cancelled — caused the league to schedule a doubleheader for Saturday. But the weather caused the Saturday doubleheader to be cancelled as well… with one of the games re-scheduled as part of a Sunday doubleheader. And with the weekend series being Seattle’s only trip to Cleveland this year, and with today being an open date for both teams, it was expected that the teams would play two games yesterday and the last game of the series today.

But weather caused the cancellation of yesterday’s doubleheader… causing the league to schedule two games for today with the third game hanging in the balance — to be played sometime later in the 2007 season.

Today’s cancellation means that the two teams will have a full three game series hanging in the balance for the rest of the season.

And with weather in Cleveand expected to be frigid and rainy for the next three days as well, Major League Baseball, the Cleveland Indians and the Los Angeles Angels have agreed to move the three game series between the Indians and Angels — scheduled for Tuesday through Thursday — to Miller Park in Milwaukee, WI.

Miller Park is 437 miles from Jacobs Field, according to Mapquest.com… and it has a retractable roof just in case the weather in Wisconsin proves to be as inhospitable as the weather along the Lake Erie shorefront in Ohio over the last several days.

Indians outfielder David Dellucci said: “This is bizarre… absolutely bizarre. But I think we’re prepared to do whatever we need to do to play a ballgame. We just want to play… we might not have many people in the stands, other than workers, and you might hear the crickets in the rafters… but at least we’re going to be playing baseball”.

Fans holding tickets for the postponed games Friday, Saturday and Sunday can exchange them for any remaining game on the Tribe’s home schedule starting today.
