Petulant Clemens Lashes Out At Media For Negativity In Post-Game Press Conference

By Administrator | May 29, 2007

Roger Clemens has endured a heapin’ helpin’ of criticism and second-guessing since making the emotional (and IMO, foolish) decision to make his most recent comeback in a Yankees uniform rather than bringing his career full-circle in Boston with the Red Sox. Many pundits have charged that his decision was not based on ‘winning’ — as he said it would be — but on money… and many people thinks he will get what he deserves as the Yankees free-fall into last place.

So tonight, when he was asked by a Scranton-area reporter about some of the negative things that have been written about him over his comeback, he ended his press conference by slamming his hand on the table and walking out of the room. Awww, poor little millionaire… did someone get his feelings hurt? Did you really think people wouldn’t see through the disingenuous mercenary thing you’ve got going on?

After the question was asked, Clemens retorted angrily: “If you want to be negative, be negative. I’m not a negative person… you be negative as much as you want. If I stink and I don’t pitch well out there, I know I stink — I don’t need you tell me that. I have pride in what I do. I’ll pull my heart out and set it right there for you to see it. When I perform, I’ve done it. I got that from my mother… so if you want to write, and these other people want to write, negative… everything has to be negative these days. There always had to be a negative. I’ve always been positive in my life. It won’t end. I don’t want to be around negative people. So I won’t associate myself with those people. So if it makes you feel good to write negative stuff then go ahead but you’ve never been in the arena… never been in this arena to understand what it’s like. Keep that in mind. People read your column and associate things with me that are not true. I’ll answer it as honestly I can so that 10-year old when he reads about won’t assume things. You can tell how passionate I am about it. Ok?”

With that he ended the press conference.

Of course, the thing that Roger misses is that there didn’t HAVE to be negative in his return… he could have taken less money, gone to the winning situation (like he said he was going to do), and returned to Boston for the much-anticipated ‘love fest’ that surely would have been awaiting him. But Roger was p-o’d when the Sox offered “only” $18 million… his ego was bruised… and so he took George’s millions.

And now he has the temerity to lash out at a Scranton, PA, reporter because he had the audacity to ask the common-sense question?

Hey Rah-jah… get a grip! And tell the Yankees you want to pitch on Sunday in Boston…

come on, big man! Take your medicine!!!
