By Administrator | October 19, 2007

In 1964, Harry ‘the Hat’ Walker was named as manager of the Pirates.

In 1972, the A’s got four straight singles — three by pinch-hitters — to score twice in the ninth to win Game 4 of the World Series defeating the Reds, 3-2.

In 1986, Boston took a 2-0 lead in the World Series with 9-3 rout of the NY Mets… the Red Sox battered Dwight Gooden for six runs in five innings and had 18 hits for the game.

In 1987, the Yankees named Billy Martin manager for the fifth time… this time his tenure would last until June 23,1988.

In 2004, in an ALCS game which featured two reversed calls by the umpires, the Red Sox beat the Yankees, 4-2, in Game 6 of the ALCS behind an outstanding pitching performance from Curt Schilling — who was playing with a dislocated ankle tendon.

Born Today: Fred Snodgrass (1887), Sandy Alomar (1943), Keith Foulke (1972)
