Lester Strong In Red Sox 7-6 Loss To Reds
By Administrator | March 5, 2008
Jon Lester surrendered one run over three innings in his second Grapefruit League start this afternoon in Fort Myers… he allowed four hits, issued one walk, and struck out a pair of Reds hitters.
Hideki Okajima, Manny Delcarmen and Jon Switzer each pitched a scoreless inning of relief, while Devern Hansack allowed one run in two innings.
Southpaw Javier Lopez was saddled with the loss after allowing five runs — all unearned — in one inning pitched. Third baseman Keith Ginter, who replaced Mike Lowell to start the bottom of the sixth inning, made a throwing error that opened the floodgates… and ineffective Lopez was unable to overcome the error. He allowed five hits, walked a batter and hit a batter in the inning.
The Red Sox offense pounded out seventeen hits, including fourteen singles, against six Cincinnati pitchers. Four players garnered a pair of hits apiece (Manny Ramirez, Alex Cora, Keith Ginter and Joe Thurston).
