Yankee Stadium Ortiz Jersey Being Sold On Ebay; Bidding Already At $64K And Climbing With 5 Days Left
By Administrator | April 19, 2008
If Dr Charles Steinberg was still with the Red Sox, Gino Castignoli would be throwing out the first pitch at Fenway Park on Monday morning prior to the annual Patriots Day game.

The jersey is being auctioned on eBay… see link below to view or to bid on the item
Castignoli is the Bronx resident and Red Sox fan who buried a David Ortiz jersey in the concrete under the visitor’s clubhouse at the new baseball stadium (Steinbrenner Stadium?) that is currently under construction in The Bronx. He worked on the construction site for one day — with the expressed intent of burying the Red Sox jersey in the new home of the hated Yankees. Surely, Steinberg would have found some way to make the guy a celebrity-for-a-night at Fenway Park…
In the meantime, Yankees officials have asked that Castignoli be prosecuted for the prank… but Bronx DA Robert Johnson (a NY Mets fan) yesterday dismissed any suggestion that Castignoli would face prosecution. A spokesman said: “It’s unlikely, given our limited resources, we would use them for something of this nature”.
The shirt has been given to The Jimmy Fund and is being auctioned on eBay to raise money for the charity. As of 7:00 PM, the bidding was at $64,100 with five days remaining on the auction (if you are interested you can bid HERE).
I am awaiting a callback from Yankee Stadium, but as of this moment it appears The Evil Empire will NOT ask the Bronx DA to prosecute anyone who purchases the jersey as an accessory after the fact.
