Beckett Scratched From Tonight’s Start Against Angels

By Administrator | April 22, 2008

Josh Beckett has been pulled from tonight’s start against the LA Angels of Anaheim.

Beckett has been fighting the same illness (flu?) that took Jason Varitek out of the lineup for the past couple of days. The Red Sox pulled minor leaguer David Pauley from his start for Pawtucket last night in case there was a problem today… he came to Boston and spent last evening in a hotel.

Early this afternoon, he was told that he wouldn’t be needed tonight, but later in the afternoon the staff ace started experiencing problems with ‘a stiff neck’ and Pauley was told that he would, in fact, be making the emergency start for the Red Sox.

The team is not sure whether Beckett will be skipped in the rotation or whether he will just have his start pushed back a few days.

Jason Varitek once again will be out of the lineup with flu-like symptoms.
