In The Silo (The Farm Report): The PawSox Win, JetHawks Trailing, Sea Dogs Off

By Administrator | April 29, 2008

Triple-A Pawtucket (International League): After losing a pair of games in Buffalo this weekend, the PawSox headed east to Rochester this evening for the start of a three game set against the Red Wings (Minnesota Twins). It was a cold, overcast night in upstate New York… according to the PawSox website, only about 300 fans braved the 44-degree temperatures to watch the game.

Regardless, David Pauley got the series off on the right foot for Pawtucket, allowing only one run on six hits and one walk over five innings pitched in the 8-6 win. After retiring the first two batters of the game, Pauley surrendered a double and two singles… but, with runners at second and third, he struck out former Twins second baseman Alexi Casilla to end the threat. He would scatter three additional singles during the remainder of his outing.

By the time he left the game the Sox were up 7-1… but the bullpen allowed the Red Wings back into the game. Reliever Edgar Martinez allowed 5 runs (4 earned) in 1 2/3 innings before being rescued by Jon Switzer and Lee Gronkiewicz (who recorded his fifth save in six opportunities).

PawSox hitters abused Red Wings starter Kevin Mulvey — one of the pitchers acquired from the Mets in the Johan Santana trade this winter — who allowed 7 earned runs in 4 2/3 innings pitched. Sandy Madera, in just his second game since being promoted from Portland, went 1-for-4 including a three-run home run and had a fourth rbi to lead the offense. Five players each had a pair of hits… Jeff Bailey and Dusty Brown each scored a pair of runs.

Double-A Portland (Eastern League): The Sea Dogs had Monday evening off… they begin a series at the Bowie Bay Sox (Baltimore) tomorrow evening.

Single-A Lancaster (Hi-A, California League): At ‘the launching pad’ in Lancaster, the JetHawks were trailing Lake Elsinore (SD) 5-3 after 6 innings (remember, as I write this, it is just after 9:30 PM in CA). The game is the finale of a four game set against the Storm, who had won two of the first three games.

Prospect Lars Anderson, the #4 prospect on my top ten prospects list, is 3-for-3 with a home run and two rbi in the game. RF Josh Reddick, another of the Red Sox top prospects, is 1-for-3 — the hit was his first home run of the season.

Anderson was batting .267, with three home runs, through twenty-two games before this evening.

Reddick, who hit .340 in Greenville (Low-A) before being promoted last week, was hitting .353 with three rbi in five games with the JetHawks entering tonight’s game.
