The respective league managers for the 2008 All-Star Game have extended invitations to serve as coaches for the Mid-Summer Classic, to be played at Yankee Stadium in July.
Boston manager Terry Francona, who will guide the AL team, and Colorado manager Clint Hurdle, who will manage the NL team, have decided on who they would like to have serve on their coaching staffs and extended invitations accordingly.
Francona invited NYY manager Joe Girardi and Detroit manager Jim Leyland to be AL coaches. Several Red Sox coaches will handle batting practice and field duties, including Luis Alicea, John Farrell, DeMarlo Hale, Dave Magadan, Brad Mills and Gary Tuck.
Hurdle asked NYM manager Willie Randolph and San Diego manager Bud Black to be on his staff. Colorado coaches working on the NL staff include Bob Apodaca, Alan Cockrell, Mike Gallego, Glenallen Hill, Rick Mathews and Jamie Quirk.
