In The Silo: Masterson Strong In Triple-A Debut, Gets “W”
By Administrator | May 30, 2008
Justin Masterson made his Triple-A debut for the Pawtucket Red Sox this evening, allowing two runs (one earned) over six innings to earn the victory in the Sox 5-2 win over Scranton / Wilkes - Barre (NYY). He allowed four hits, walked one and struck out three in his outing.
He got plenty of offensive support from the PawSox biggest bat, as Jeff Bailey hit two home runs (#15 and #16) and knocked in three runs to support Masterson and relievers Hunter Jones and Chris Smith (who earned his fifth save by striking out both batters he faced).
Pawtucket took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a leadoff home run by Chris Carter. Scranton tied the game in the top of the third ining when Masterson threw a wild pitch with a runner at third base, allowing the run to cross the plate. The PawSox took the lead in the bottom of the inning on Bailey’s first home run — a two-run shot to left field — but the Yankees answered back in the bottom of the inning on an unearned run (on an error by 2B Joe Thurston).
The score remained 3-2 until the eighth inning when Bailey hit his second home run — a solo HR — and Brandon Moss delivered an rbi-single.
Pawtucket 5, Scranton 2.
