Youkilis Sent To Eye Specialist, Out Of Starting Lineup
By Administrator | June 24, 2008
The Red Sox sent first baseman Kevin Youkilis to an eye specialist after he reported to the ballpark this afternoon.
Youk was hit under the right eye by a one-hop throw from Mike Lowell during fielding practice between the fourth and fifth innings of last night’s game. His eye immediately swelled and turned purple… he was pulled form the game and replaced by Brandon Moss.
His eye was still swollen and watering when he arrived at Fenway Park this afternoon, so he was sent for further medical evaluation. Boston manager Terry Francona said: “He showed up, looked like he got beat up. He’s still got some watering because of the swelling so we sent him down to the eye specialist”.
Francona said he hoped to have Youkilis back for Wednesday’s finale against Arizona or Boston’s first game in Houston on Friday, following an off-day Thursday.
