Crisp’s Suspension Reduced To Five Games
By Administrator | June 27, 2008
Coco Crisp said he is pleased that MLB reduced his upcoming suspension from seven games to five games… the penalty is scheduled to begin tomorrow and will cover the final two games in Houston and (coincidentally?) the entire series in Tampa, Florida.
As you may remember, Tampa Bay was the other side in the June 5th brawl (at Fenway Park) that led to eight players being suspended — including Crisp, Sean Casey and Jon Lester from the Red Sox.
Asked if he thought that MLB had timed his suspension as a hedge against a resumption of hostilities, Crisp said: “I didn’t think anything was going to happen in Tampa if I played in those games, but for precautionary reasons, I guess this lets everything cool down”.
Francona said he had originally planned to play Jacoby Ellsbury in Houston tonight, but since Crisp will be forced to sit for the next five games he put him in the lineup. Francona said Manny Ramirez assured him he could play left field, that his tender hamstring felt very good.
