He’s B-a-a-c-k! Can Timlin Help Save Beleaguered Sox Bullpen?
By Administrator | July 3, 2008
The Red Sox bullpen has been overworked because the starters have not been getting deep into games… and lately its workload has taken its toll as the ‘pen has been horrible.
This afternoon, the relief corps got a shot in the arm as the Red Sox activated Mike Timlin from the 15-day disabled list in time for the start of a four-game series against the New York Yankees. The 42-year-old righty went on the DL on June 21st with tendinitis in his left knee.
The Red Sox demoted right-handed reliever Chris Smith to Triple-A Pawtucket to make room for Timlin.
Timlin is 3-3 with one save and a 7.06 ERA for the Red Sox in 2008, but he retired all nine batters he faced in three appearances for the PawSox. Before tonight’s game in The Bronx, Sox manager Terry Francona said: “The reports were as good as the numbers”.
Maybe his return to the roster comes just in the nick of time…
