Three Red Sox And Three Cubs To Start MLB All-Star Game

By Administrator | July 6, 2008

The American League All-Star team will have three Red Sox starters while the National League starting lineup includes three Chicago Cubs.

Fans actually voted four Red Sox players as starters, but due to DH David Ortiz’ unavailability (wrist injury), only Kevin Youkilis (first base), Dustin Pedroia (second base) and Manny Ramirez (outfield) will start the 2008 MLB All-Star Game, to be played on July 15th at Yankee Stadium.

Ortiz will be replaced in the starting lineup by AL manager Terry Francona.

Catcher Geovany Soto and outfielders Alfonso Soriano and Kosuke Fukudome are the three Chicago Cubs players voted onto the NL’s starting lineup.

The other American League starters: Minnesota catcher Joe Mauer, Texas outfielder Josh Hamilton, Seattle outfielder Ichiro Suzuki, and two members of the NY Yankees — shortstop Derek Jeter and third baseman Alex Rodriguez.

The NL squad will include Houston first baseman Lance Berkman, Philadelphia second baseman Chase Utley, Florida shortstop Hanley Ramirez, Atlanta third baseman Chipper Jones and Milwaukee outfielder Ryan Braun.

A-Rod led all players in total votes (3,934,518)… Utley led all NL players (3,889,602).

Seven players will be making their first start in an All-Star Game — Youkilis, Pedroia, Hamilton, Soto, Ramirez, Fukudome, Braun.
