July 18th
One night after homering in his first rehab start with the Pawtucket Red Sox, David Ortiz hit a three-run home run to break open a tight game and help the PawSox to a rain-shortened 6-1 win over the Toledo Mud Hens (DET) at Hadlock Field. The win improved the PawSox record to 63-37 — it is the first time in franchise history that the club is 26-games-over-.500.
The game was called due to thunderstorms with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Ortiz was 1-for-2 with two walks, three rbi and two runs scored.
The PawSox jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning on a walk, two singles and a two-run double by newly-promoted right fielder Jeff Corsaletti. After the Mud Hens cut the lead in half in the top of the fifth inning on a Mike Hollimon solo home run, Pawtucket scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning on Joe Thurston’s rbi-double and Ortiz’ home run.
Devern Hansack went the distance… he pitched seven innings, allowing one run on two hits and no walks while striking out eight Toledo hitters.

In Lancaster, CA, the JetHawks relied on strong pitching from starter Chris Jones and two relievers, along with three home runs, to complete a sweep of the San Jose Giants (SF), 6-3, at Clear Channel Stadium. Lancaster has now won ten of their last twelve games.
The ‘Hawks jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning on two walks and a single. They added two more runs in the second inning on a single and a pair of rbi-doubles by Zak Farkes and Daniel Nava. Josh Reddick (#16), Luis Exposito (#3) and newly-promoted Yamaico Navarro (#1) added solo home runs to complete the JetHawks scoring.
Starting pitcher surrendered two runs on five hits and two walks to earn the win… reliever Derrick Loop pitched 3 2/3 innings, allowing one run… and new closer Jason Blackey earned his second save with a strikeout.
