Tim Wakefield vs Andy Pettitte

Tim Wakefield is 7-8, 3.67 in 2008… he is 0-1, 6.94 against the Bronx Bombers thus far this season. He is winless at Yankee Stadium since the summer of 2006, during which time he has made six starts and his record is 0-5, 8.91.

In two starts against the Yankees this season, he has pitched 11 2/3 innings, allowing nine earned runs on twelve hits and five walks. He has struck out eight. He was the starting pitcher on July 6th at Yankee Stadium in a game the Red Sox eventually lost, 5-4… he got a ‘no decision’ as he pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on four hits and a walk. He then was the losing pitcher in the Yankees 10-3 win against the Red Sox at Fenway Park on July 26th… he threw 5 1/3 innings and gave up six runs on eight hits and four walks.

Robinson Cano is 11-for-33 (.333) in his career against Wakefield, with three home runs and nine rbi… Derek Jeter is 30-for-96 (.313) with three homers and ten rbi… Johnny Damon is 17-for-57 (.298), with two dingers and seven ribbies.

A-Rod has seven career HR against Wakefield… Jason Giambi has hit only .172 against the knuckleballer.

Andy Pettitte is 13-9, 4.19 in 2008… he is 1-1, 5.06 against the Red Sox this season. In two starts against the Sox, he has pitched 10 2/3 innings, allowing six earned runs on fourteen hits and six walks while striking out nine Red Sox hitters.

He faced Boston in the Bronx on July 3rd, taking the loss in the Sox 7-0 win… he tossed 4 2/3 innings and allowed five runs on nine hits and three walks. Later in the month, on July 26th, he was the winning pitcher in the Yankees 10-3 triumph at Fenway Park… in that game, he pitched six innings and allowed three runs (only one earned) on five hits and three walks.

Jason Bay is 8-for-19 (.421) in his career against the Yankees lefty, with a home run and two rbi… David Ortiz is 15-for-42 (.357), with one homer and seven rbi… Jason Varitek is 17-for-50 (.340), with two home runs and seven rbi. The Sox will miss JD Drew’s bat this evening — he is a career .346 hitter against Pettitte, with three homers and three rbi.

Jacoby Ellsbury is 3-for-5, with three rbi, against Pettitte in limited action.
