Sox Announce 2009 Schedule

By Administrator | September 17, 2008

The 2008 playoffs haven’t started, yet the Red Sox have already announced their 2009 schedule… such is life in today’s marketing-centric world of Major League Baseball.

The Sox will begin the season at home — their first season-opener at Fenway Park since 2002 and just their second home opener since 1996 — on April 6th against the Tampa Bay Rays. Afterwards, they head to California for three-game sets with the Los Angeles Angels and Oakland A’s.

The Sox then return home for a nine-game homestand with Baltimore, Minnesota, and the NY Yankees from April 17th - 26th… this homestand will include the annual Patriots Day game (April 20th vs Baltimore).

Other highlights:

The Red Sox will make their first visit to the new Yankee Stadium for a two-game set on Monday, May 4th and Tuesday, May 5th.

The Yankees also come to Fenway for a midweek series in June (9th - 11th) and a weekend series in August (21st - 23rd)… the teams will meet in NY for a four-game weekend series in August (6th - 9th) and again in September (25th - 27th).

All eighteen of the Red Sox’ interleague games will be against National League East opponents. The Sox open interleague play with a three-game series against the Mets at Fenway Park (May 22nd - 24th)… they will also play home series against Florida and Atlanta (three games each from June 16th - 21st). Their interleage road schedule includes trips to Philadelphia (June 12th - 14th), Washington (June 23rd - 25th) and Atlanta (June 26th - 28th).

Game times will be finalized and announced at a later date.
