Should Lowell Be Playing?
By Administrator | September 17, 2008
During last night’s game in Tampa, 3B Mike Lowell apparently exacerbated his hip injury (labrum).
While Lowell and the Red Sox contended that he could play the remainder of the year with a partially-torn labrum without damaging the hip further, it now appears those assertions were erroneous, misleading, or downright untruthful. The question now is whether Lowell’s hip has suffered more damage that would prevent him from playing for the remainder of the season / post-season.
Prior to tonight’s finale, manager Terry Francona announced that the Red Sox are sending the results of Lowell’s recent MRIs to a pair of specialists for evaluation, with the hope that Lowell might be able to return to the lineup this weekend in Toronto.
But anyone who saw Lowell swing, field or run last night knows that Lowell needs to be shut down — at least until the start of the playoffs.
Lowell said he hopes to speak with the specialists via conference call tomorrow and was hoping to avoid a trip to see the doctors. He said that doctors have assured him that treatment will remain unchanged (he will likely undergo surgery after the season) and that he will not suffer long-term problems as a result of delaying treatment of the injury (he has expressed concerns about post-retirement quality-of-life issues… he was assured he was at no greater risk than anyone else).

Hey Sox1Fan I got a survey from the RemDawg. When I got to the comments section here is what I sent in: I subscribe because I like RemDawg. I feel like he has little to do with his site. Take a look at http://sox1fan.com/ if you want a real Red Sox site!
