Colon Suspended… Red Sox Career Likely Over
By Administrator | September 20, 2008
You had to know that Bartolo Colon would get tired of living life in limbo… eventually.
The burly right-hander spent most of 2008 in the minor leagues or on one of the disabled lists (major league or minor league)… almost certainly a direct result of his inability to do push-aways (from the dinner table). Occasionally, the former AL Cy Young Award winner demonstrated that he might be an asset to the team, but his inability to contribute consistently left him without a role on a ballclub that is hoping to repeat as world champions.
And so he was relegated to a reliever / spot starter role.
THAT didn’t sit too well with Colon.
Earlier this week, he blew off a couple of meetings with manager Terry Francona at which the two men were scheduled to discuss Colon’s role on the team. Then, on Wednesday, he left the team to travel to the Dominican Republic to “tend to a personal matter”.
The Red Sox have apparently tired of the portly prima dona’s shenanigans… he has been placed on the restricted list (read: he is suspended without pay) and, in all likelihood, will never wear a Red Sox uniform again.
Ah, Bartolo, we hardly knew ye…
… don’t let the door hit you on your way out the door.
