Red Sox Update: Lowell Out, Velazquez In… Lineups… Prediction
By Administrator | October 6, 2008
The Red Sox have announced that third baseman Mike Lowell has been removed from the active roster for the remainder of the American League Division Series due to the strained labrum in his right hip. He was replaced on the active roster by infielder Gil Velazquez, who will be available for Game 4 later this evening.
Lowell started two of the first three games of the series, going 0-for-8.
Since the injury replacement was made in the middle of the series, Lowell will not be eligible to be on the active roster in the event the Red Sox advance to the American League Championship Series.
Velazquez was purchased from Triple-A Pawtucket on September 25th. He went 1-for-8, with one rbi, in three games… during the minor league season, he hit .260, with ten home runs and forty-six rbi in 101 games. He has experience playing each of the four infield positions and left field.
