Dodgers GM Colletti Says NY Post Report About Offer To Ramirez Is Fiction
By Administrator | October 25, 2008
Los Angeles Dodgers GM Ned Colletti has dismissed a report in yesterday’s NY Post that says the NL West champions have offered left fielder Manny Ramirez a two-year contract worth $60 million.
Earlier in the week, SI.com reported that the Dodgers were considering an offer to Ramirez that might match Alex Rodriguez’ annual average salary of $27.5 million… but whereas Ramirez’ new agent, Scott Boras, is reportedly looking for a deal in the vicinity of five or six years, SI.com reported that the LA offer would be for a shorter period, perhaps as few as two years.
Colletti said both reports are fiction. He said that the Dodgers brain trust haven’t even had internal conversations about the value or length of an offer they might extend to the enigmatic outfielder… and that such discussions are not likely to take place until sometimes next week. And even though the Dodgers are the only team that can negotiate with ManRam for the next couple of weeks (the period of exclusivity lasts until fifteen days after the end of the World Series), Colletti would not say whether he expects to use the exclusivity period to begin negotiations with Boras.
Boras has declined to comment on the SI.com or NY Post reports.
