Around Baseball: Mussina To Retire
By Administrator | November 20, 2008
According to ESPN, New York Yankees pitcher Mike Mussina has decided to retire.
According to a baseball source with knowledge of the situation, Mussina informed the Yankees last week he would give them a decision by the end of this week. He reportedly came to a final decision on retirement yesterday.
The announcement will bring an end to Mussina’s eighteen year career… he pitched his first ten years with the Baltimore Orioles and the last eight years for the Yankees.
His 270 wins rank him second among all active right-handers, behind only Greg Maddux… he achieved his first twenty-win season in 2008, winning his final outing against the Red Sox to reach the evasive threshold.
