Sox May Be On The Verge Of Wrapping Up Teixeira In Time For XMAS
By Administrator | December 18, 2008
This weekend, members of Red Sox Nation continued to demonstrate their love and loyalty for the Olde Towne Team when they purchased tickets for the upcoming season at a record-breaking pace.
Tonight, the two members of the Sox ownership triad and their general manager are in Texas — once again demonstrating that they are worthy of their fans’ intense devotion.
On this evening’s broadcast, Channel 5 sports anchor Mike Lynch reported that Sox owner John Henry, owner / team president Larry Lucchino, and general manager Theo Epstein are in Houston, TX, to meet with Scott Boras, the agent for free agent 1B Mark Teixeira. According to an unnamed source, the Red Sox have offered the former Red Sox draft pick an eight-year contract worth $184 million (an AAV of $23 million).
The source told Lynch that Henry, Lucchino and Epstein are hopeful they will wrap up a deal to bring the switch-hitter into the fold — tonight!
The trek to Texas elicits fond recollections of the sojourn to Arizona undertaken by Epstein & Lucchino on Thanksgiving 2003 when they sealed the deal to bring Curt Schilling to Boston. As everyone in RSN knows, that deal paid extraordinary dividends, as Schilling helped deliver TWO world championships to Boston and, as a result, change the culture of the franchise.
We can only hope this journey bears similar fruit for the franchise… and its devoted Nation.
Stay tuned!
