In 1937, Negro Leagues star Josh Gibson was credited with a drive that hit just two feet below the rim of Yankee Stadium — about 580 feet from home plate… it was estimated that the ball would have traveled nearly 700 feet if unimpeded.

In 1941, Mel Ott hit his 400th home run and scored his 1500th career run to help beat the Reds, 3-2.

In 1955, Stan Musial hit the 300th home run of his career.

In 1958, a proposition that allowed the city to sell 300 acres of Chavez Ravine to the Dodgers for their new stadium passed in Los Angeles by a slim margin of 24,293 votes.
