Mickey Mantle socked the only home run he ever hit off Sox reliever Dick Radatz, who struck The Mick out in twelve of his sixteen career at-bats.
Mantle’s home run was part of NY’s two-run rally that sent the game to extra innings, but Russ Nixon’s pinch-hit single in the twelfth inning sent the Sox home as winners.
With the win, Radatz had won or saved five of the eight games the Sox had played against the Yankees in 1964.
