Around Baseball: Yankees Acquire Former Sox Utilityman Hinske
By Administrator | June 30, 2009
Eric Hinske must really like the AL East… or, at least, the teams in the AL East really seem to like Eric Hinske. The former Toronto Blue Jays Rookie-of-the-Year, who has also played for both the Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays in his career, has been acquired by the N Y Yankees for a pair of minor leaguers
(RHP Casey Erickson and OF Eric Fryer).
Hinske hit .255 (in 106 ABs) for the Pirates this season while playing right field, first base and third base… he had 1 HR and 11 RBI.
To fill the roster spot created by the trade, Pittsburgh will promote 28-year-old OF Garrett Jones from Triple-A Indianapolis, where he was hitting .307, with 12 HR, 48 RBI and 14 SB.
