In 1963, Sandy Koufax was named the NL MVP just six days after he was unanimously named the NL Cy Young Award winner.
In 1967, the White Sox announced the team would play nine regular season games in Milwaukee during the 1968 season… it would be the first time since 1905 an American League team would play outside its own city.
In 1974, A’s right-hander Catfish Hunter was named the American League’s Cy Young winner after leading the league with 25 wins and a 2.49 ERA.
In 2000, broadcaster Bob Brenly was named manager of the Arizona Diamondbacks, replacing Buck Showalter (howhad been the only manager in the club’s history).
In 2007, the NY Yankees signed Joe Girardi to three-year deal worth a reported 7.5 million to replace Joe Torre as manager… Torre left the post earlier month after rejecting a 29% pay cut after guiding his club to their 12th post-season appearance in 12 years.
