In 1926, Judge Kenesaw Mountain Landis was given a new seven-year term as commissioner, with a raise to $65,000 per annum.

In 1953, in an 11-player trade, the Yankees traded top prospect Vic Powers to the Philadelphia A’s… the powerful first baseman had hoped to be the first black to play for the Yankees after enjoying 3 outstanding seasons in the minor leagues.

In 1975, Bill Veeck got back into baseball by heading a group which bought eighty percent of the Chicago White Sox from John Allyn.

In 1976, Reds’ first baseman Tony Perez and pitcher Will McEnaney were traded to the Expos for pitchers Woody Fryman and Dale Murray.

In 1982, Tom Seaver was traded back to the New York from Cincinnati.

In 1983, Yogi Berra was hired for the second time to manage the Yankees… he was hired to replace Billy Martin after the Yankees finished in third place.

In 1992, Dusty Baker was hired to replace Roger Craig as manager of the Giants.

In 2003, Miguel Tejada agreed to a six-year, $72 million contract with the Orioles — the largest deal in the history of the franchise… the shortstop had hit .287, with 27 home runs and 106 rbi, during the previous season for the Oakland A’s.

In 2008, the world champion Philadelphia Phillies finalized a three-year, $31.5 million deal with free-agent OF Raul Ibanez, who will replace the departing Pat Burrell.
