March 9th: Wakefield, Reddick Help Reel In Marlins, 9-0
By Administrator | March 9, 2010
Knuckleballer Tim Wakefield tossed three scoreless innings and RF Josh Reddick pitched in with three hits this afternoon as the Red Sox beat the Marlins, 9-0, in Jupiter.
The Sox sent only Wakefield and one regular cross-state for the contest against the Fish. OF Jacoby Ellsbury led off and served as the team’s Designated Hitter; otherwise, the lineup card included Jeremy Hermida, Billy Hall and a bevy of prospects. But it really didn’t matter… the Sox jumped out to a 5-0 lead after 2 1/2 innings and never looked back.
Wakefield allowed two hits and didn’t walk anyone in his second outing of the spring… he has yet to allow a run in five innings pitched thus far.
Reddick had three hits, including two doubles, drove in one run and scored two others. Hermida, Ryan Kalish and Yamaico Navarro each added two hits… Gil Velazquez and Dusty Brown each drove home a pair of runs.
The Red Sox will play Tampa Bay at home in an afternoon affair tomorrow.
