By Administrator | March 19, 2010
The Red Sox announced that they have received encouraging news on the condition of prospect Ryan Westmoreland, the 19-year outfielder who underwent brain surgery this Tuesday to repair a cavernous malformation.
According to redsox.com, Westmoreland has been taken out of the Intensive Care Unit and moved into the Neuro Rehab Unit at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center, in Phoenix, AZ, where he will start physical and occupational therapy in the near future.
Robert Spetzler, Westmoreland’s neurosurgeon, said: “Ryan is right on track and we expect progressive improvement.”
Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein said: “We are thrilled for Ryan and his family that the surgery went so well. While we recognize that the recovery process is long and complicated, we are excited that all of the early indications are so positive. On behalf of the Westmoreland family, we thank everybody who has expressed concern and support for Ryan.”
