Buccholz Impresses Again, But Still Can’t Buy A Win In Altoona

Portland Sea Dogs pitcher Clay Buccholz had another strong outing again yesterday… yet, once more, the top pitching prospect in the Red Sox farm system was not rewarded with a win due to the inept offense being offered by the Sea Dogs position players.

Yesterday, in the first game of a doubleheader against the Altoona Curve, Buccholz allowed one run on three hits and three walks while striking out seven batters over 5 2/3 innings pitched… yet he left the game with the score tied 1-1 in a game eventually won by Altoona 2-1.

Last night’s outing was the sixth straight outing in which Buccholz has struck out at least seven batters—tying the Sea Dogs record held by current Sox pitcher Josh Beckett.

Note to Theo: the time to promote Buccholz to Pawtucket has long since passed… let’s see what this guy can do in Triple-A!
